Tyvek® Drawstring Pouch RFQ Checklist for Beauty Brands

A sourcing checklist for beauty brands requesting a custom Tyvek® drawstring pouch, from dimensions and cord channel to print and pack-out approval.

Quick Buyer Summary

A useful Tyvek® drawstring pouch RFQ needs more than width, height and quantity. State whether the dimensions are finished internal or external measurements, whether the base is flat or gusseted, what products must fit, and whether verified DuPont Tyvek® is required. Define the material hand, cord, channel, opening, reinforcement, logo method, individual packing and carton limits. Approve the sample with the intended contents inside. Check gathering, seam stress, print position, cord closure and the pouch after folding and pack-out before releasing bulk production.

Drawstring pouches look simple, but their usable capacity and closure behavior depend on several linked decisions. A channel that is too tight can be difficult to close. A logo placed too high can disappear into the gathered section. A nominal 175 × 230 mm size may not describe the usable space once seams, channel depth and any gusset are included.

Use Rivta's custom Tyvek® cosmetic bags and lightweight pouches page to confirm the material route, then use this checklist to brief the drawstring construction.

Rivta recently received a qualified inquiry for a 175 × 230 mm drawstring-style pouch at 1,000 units. That request is useful demand evidence, but it remains an inquiry-stage brief—not a completed production case. This checklist shows what a buyer should add before quotation and sampling.

1. Confirm What “Tyvek®” Means in the Quotation

Tyvek® is a DuPont brand of spunbonded high-density polyethylene material, not ordinary paper.1 Tell the supplier whether verified DuPont Tyvek® is required or whether a separately identified paper-look alternative may be quoted. The supplier should not use the Tyvek® name for an unverified alternative.

Trademark statement: Tyvek® is a registered trademark of DuPont de Nemours, Inc. Rivta is an independent bag manufacturer and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by DuPont. Material route and supporting documents are confirmed per project.

2. Specify Finished Size and Usable Capacity

Write dimensions in a fixed order—width × height × depth—and state whether they are finished outside measurements. If the pouch must hold a skincare set, provide the largest product dimensions and preferably a pack-out layout.

StructureCapacity effectSample check
Flat pouchLow bulk and simple packing; usable width reduces as contents gain thickness.Load the widest item and confirm the mouth can still close.
Bottom gussetAdds standing depth and changes the finished silhouette.Check filled base shape, corner symmetry and stated depth.
Side and bottom gussetSupports a larger kit but adds pattern and sewing control points.Confirm loaded dimensions and the transition into the cord channel.

3. Define the Drawstring Channel and Cord

The RFQ should identify whether the pouch uses one cord or two, which direction it closes, and whether knots, tips or cord locks are required. Ask the supplier to confirm:

  • cord material, diameter and color;
  • channel depth and opening size;
  • single-side or double-side draw;
  • reinforcement at cord exits;
  • how much of the pouch height remains usable below the gathered section;
  • whether repeated opening creates unacceptable wear or distortion.

Construction reference only: the image above demonstrates a drawstring channel and gathered closure. Its material is not presented as Tyvek®. The final Tyvek® route must be sampled separately.

4. Place the Logo Below the Gather Zone

Screen print and other decoration routes depend on the confirmed material style and surface. Provide editable artwork, final logo dimensions, color target and distance from seams. The sample should show the pouch both flat and fully gathered. Avoid approving a centered flat placement that becomes visually high, curved or partly hidden after closure.

5. Decide How Much Creasing Is Acceptable

A paper-like or metallic Tyvek® surface can develop visible creases through gathering and packing. This may be part of the intended look, but the buyer should still define unacceptable damage. Compare the approved sample after repeated opening, flat folding and the proposed polybag/carton pack-out. If a crisp retail presentation is required, packing protection and carton count need their own approval.

6. Do Not Turn Material Resistance Into a Waterproof Claim

A drawstring opening is not a sealed closure. Even if the selected material resists water penetration, the finished pouch should not be described as leakproof, immersion-safe or fully waterproof without a separately defined construction and test. State the actual use case—such as dry beauty kit presentation, travel packing or secondary product protection—so the supplier can screen fit accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 175 × 230 mm enough information for a quotation?

No. State whether those are finished external dimensions, whether a gusset is required, what the pouch must hold, and how much height the drawstring channel uses.

Can a paper-look alternative be called Tyvek®?

No. An alternative should be identified separately. Use the Tyvek® name only when the supplied material route is verified.

Can the logo be printed inside the gathered area?

It can be sampled, but the artwork may distort or become hidden after closure. Approve placement on a finished, gathered sample.

Is a Tyvek® drawstring pouch waterproof?

Not by default. The drawstring opening and sewn seams prevent a general leakproof or immersion claim. Any performance statement needs a defined use and test.

What should be loaded into the approval sample?

Use the intended retail or gift-set contents, including the largest and heaviest items, then check closure, usable capacity, seam stress and packed appearance.

What can increase the MOQ?

MOQ can change with the verified material route, custom color, print coverage, cord and tip customization, lining, reinforcement, packaging and color split. Confirm it after the specification is defined.
